Compress Image Online — Reduce File Size Free
Compress images online for free. Reduce file size with adjustable quality, all in your browser.
Drag the quality slider to see the file size drop in real time, compare the original and compressed images side by side, and export to WebP, JPG, PNG or AVIF. No uploads, no signup, unlimited and free.
All processing happens locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded.
How to compress an image without wrecking quality
Start with a quality setting around 75–80 for photos destined for the web. That range usually cuts a large chunk of the file size while keeping artifacts invisible at normal viewing sizes. Use the before/after preview to catch banding or blur before you download — guessing a quality number without a preview is how soft images ship to production.
Prefer WebP or AVIF when the destination supports them; they typically beat JPG at the same visual quality. Keep JPG when you need maximum compatibility (email, older CMSs, print shops). PNG is a poor target for photo compression — use it for logos and screenshots with sharp edges or transparency instead.
Need a hard cap (for example under 100 KB or 200 KB for a form upload)? Switch to target-size mode and set the limit in KB. ImagElite adjusts quality automatically so the export stays under your budget — still entirely in the browser, with no upload and no signup.
Batch compress many images at once
Drop a whole folder of photos or screenshots. Each file is compressed locally, then you can download a ZIP of the results. That workflow is ideal for blog assets, product galleries, and app store screenshots where uploading dozens of originals to a third-party site would be slow and risky.
Everything on this page runs locally with WASM codecs. Zero upload, no signup, unlimited use.

Frequently asked questions
How much can I compress an image?
Use the quality slider to find the right balance between file size and quality, and compare the result side by side before downloading.
Are my images uploaded?
No — all processing happens locally in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server.
Which image formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF.
Is there a file size limit?
No — there are no file size limits and no daily usage limits. The tools are free and unlimited.
Does ImagElite work offline?
Yes — ImagElite is a PWA, so after your first visit the tools also work offline.
Do I need an account?
No — there is no signup and no account required. Just drop your image and go.
Why is “no upload” better than a typical online image tool?
Most “online” compressors and converters upload your file to a remote server, process it there, then send the result back. That means a copy of your photo can sit on someone else’s disk, appear in their logs, and be subject to their retention policy. ImagElite runs WASM codecs inside your browser tab — the bytes never leave your device — so private photos, screenshots with personal data, and work assets stay local.
How does in-browser WASM processing work?
ImagElite ships modern image codecs compiled to WebAssembly (jsquash). After you drop a file, the codec runs on your CPU in the browser sandbox: decode → transform → encode → download. Large codec modules load on demand and can be cached by the service worker, so repeat visits stay fast and the tools also work offline as a PWA.
Can I compress an image to a maximum file size in KB?
Yes. Choose target-size mode, enter a limit such as 100 or 200 KB, and ImagElite searches for a quality level that stays under that budget. The search and encode still run locally — your file is never uploaded.
