Exact pixels vs fit-within
Use exact size when a platform demands a fixed canvas (App Store icons, YouTube thumbnails, play-store feature graphics). Use fit-within when you only need to stay under a max width or height — for example shrinking a 4000px camera photo to a 1600px web hero while locking aspect ratio so nothing stretches.
Lock aspect ratio unless you intentionally want a stretch. Distorted faces and logos are the fastest way to make a resize look amateur. When a destination also needs a specific crop (square Instagram post, 16:9 story), resize after cropping — or use the crop tool with a ratio preset first.

Why is “no upload” better than a typical online image tool?
Most “online” compressors and converters upload your file to a remote server, process it there, then send the result back. That means a copy of your photo can sit on someone else’s disk, appear in their logs, and be subject to their retention policy. ImagElite runs WASM codecs inside your browser tab — the bytes never leave your device — so private photos, screenshots with personal data, and work assets stay local.
How does in-browser WASM processing work?
ImagElite ships modern image codecs compiled to WebAssembly (jsquash). After you drop a file, the codec runs on your CPU in the browser sandbox: decode → transform → encode → download. Large codec modules load on demand and can be cached by the service worker, so repeat visits stay fast and the tools also work offline as a PWA.
Will resizing reduce file size?
Usually yes — fewer pixels means fewer bytes after encode — but the output format and quality still matter. After resizing a huge photo for the web, consider running it through the compressor (or exporting WebP/AVIF) for another size win.
