Convert Image Online — Change Format Free

Convert images between JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF online for free. Nothing is uploaded.

Convert between JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF directly in your browser. Great for switching to modern formats like WebP or AVIF for smaller files, or back to JPG/PNG for maximum compatibility.

All processing happens locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded.

When to convert (and when not to)

Convert to WebP or AVIF when you control the website and want smaller downloads. Convert to JPG when a partner, printer, or legacy tool only accepts JPG. Convert PNG → JPG when you have a photo saved as PNG and need a smaller shareable file — but expect to lose transparency.

Avoid round-tripping lossy formats (JPG → WebP → JPG) more than once; each encode can add compression artifacts. Prefer converting from the highest-quality source you still have (original camera file, lossless PNG, or a lightly compressed master).

Transparency, quality, and compatibility

PNG and WebP (and AVIF) can keep alpha; JPG cannot. If your logo has a clear background, do not convert it to JPG unless you deliberately want a solid backdrop. Use the on-page format guide and the pair pages (for example PNG to JPG) for trade-offs specific to each direction.

Every conversion here runs with WASM codecs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there is no signup wall, and you can convert a batch of files in one pass.

Everything on this page runs locally with WASM codecs. Zero upload, no signup, unlimited use.

You can convert between JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF in any direction, all in your browser.

Are my images uploaded?

No — all processing happens locally in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server.

Which image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF.

Is there a file size limit?

No — there are no file size limits and no daily usage limits. The tools are free and unlimited.

Does ImagElite work offline?

Yes — ImagElite is a PWA, so after your first visit the tools also work offline.

Do I need an account?

No — there is no signup and no account required. Just drop your image and go.

Why is “no upload” better than a typical online image tool?

Most “online” compressors and converters upload your file to a remote server, process it there, then send the result back. That means a copy of your photo can sit on someone else’s disk, appear in their logs, and be subject to their retention policy. ImagElite runs WASM codecs inside your browser tab — the bytes never leave your device — so private photos, screenshots with personal data, and work assets stay local.

How does in-browser WASM processing work?

ImagElite ships modern image codecs compiled to WebAssembly (jsquash). After you drop a file, the codec runs on your CPU in the browser sandbox: decode → transform → encode → download. Large codec modules load on demand and can be cached by the service worker, so repeat visits stay fast and the tools also work offline as a PWA.

Which format should I pick for the web?

Photos: WebP or AVIF when you can, JPG when you need max compatibility. Graphics with transparency: PNG or WebP. Screenshots with text: PNG or lossless WebP. Use the format guide on this page and the dedicated pair pages for each direction.
