Convert image format online — free and private

Convert JPG to PNG online for free — no upload, no signup, all in your browser.

Convert between JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF directly in your browser. Great for switching to modern formats like WebP or AVIF for smaller files, or back to JPG/PNG for maximum compatibility.

All processing happens locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded.

Conversion notes

Starting from a JPG means working with an already lossy image — converting to a lossless format can't recover detail that was compressed away earlier. Converting to PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, but the file will be noticeably larger than JPG or WebP.

Why convert JPG to PNG

JPG to PNG does not “restore” detail already lost to JPG compression — it only wraps the current pixels in a lossless container. Use this when a tool requires PNG, when you need to add transparency in another editor afterward, or when you want a lossless working copy before further edits.

Expect a larger file than the JPG source. For web delivery of photos, WebP or AVIF is usually a better size/quality choice than PNG.

Everything on this page runs locally with WASM codecs. Zero upload, no signup, unlimited use.

Yes — ImagElite is a PWA, so after your first visit the tools also work offline.

Do I need an account?

No — there is no signup and no account required. Just drop your image and go.

Why is “no upload” better than a typical online image tool?

Most “online” compressors and converters upload your file to a remote server, process it there, then send the result back. That means a copy of your photo can sit on someone else’s disk, appear in their logs, and be subject to their retention policy. ImagElite runs WASM codecs inside your browser tab — the bytes never leave your device — so private photos, screenshots with personal data, and work assets stay local.

How does in-browser WASM processing work?

ImagElite ships modern image codecs compiled to WebAssembly (jsquash). After you drop a file, the codec runs on your CPU in the browser sandbox: decode → transform → encode → download. Large codec modules load on demand and can be cached by the service worker, so repeat visits stay fast and the tools also work offline as a PWA.

Which format should I pick for the web?

Photos: WebP or AVIF when you can, JPG when you need max compatibility. Graphics with transparency: PNG or WebP. Screenshots with text: PNG or lossless WebP. Use the format guide on this page and the dedicated pair pages for each direction.
