Convert between JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF directly in your browser. Great for switching to modern formats like WebP or AVIF for smaller files, or back to JPG/PNG for maximum compatibility.

All processing happens locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded.

Conversion notes

Starting from a PNG keeps every pixel intact and preserves transparency, so the result will be larger when converted to a lossy format. Converting to JPG produces the smallest, most compatible files, but drops transparency and any pixels that were previously lossless.

Why convert PNG to JPG

PNG stores every pixel losslessly, so photos saved as PNG are often several times larger than a visually similar JPG. Converting PNG to JPG is the classic fix before emailing a photo, uploading to a CMS that rejects large PNGs, or sharing on a chat app with size limits.

Trade-off: JPG has no transparency. Soft edges and clear backgrounds become a solid color (usually white or whatever the encoder fills). If you need alpha, stay on PNG/WebP/AVIF instead.

Recommended settings

For photos, quality around 75–85 is a strong default. Check the preview for banding in skies and gradients. Screenshots with text often look better remaining PNG or converting to WebP rather than JPG.

Everything on this page runs locally with WASM codecs. Zero upload, no signup, unlimited use.

JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF.

No — there are no file size limits and no daily usage limits. The tools are free and unlimited.

Yes — ImagElite is a PWA, so after your first visit the tools also work offline.

Do I need an account?

No — there is no signup and no account required. Just drop your image and go.

Why is “no upload” better than a typical online image tool?

Most “online” compressors and converters upload your file to a remote server, process it there, then send the result back. That means a copy of your photo can sit on someone else’s disk, appear in their logs, and be subject to their retention policy. ImagElite runs WASM codecs inside your browser tab — the bytes never leave your device — so private photos, screenshots with personal data, and work assets stay local.

How does in-browser WASM processing work?

ImagElite ships modern image codecs compiled to WebAssembly (jsquash). After you drop a file, the codec runs on your CPU in the browser sandbox: decode → transform → encode → download. Large codec modules load on demand and can be cached by the service worker, so repeat visits stay fast and the tools also work offline as a PWA.

Which format should I pick for the web?

Photos: WebP or AVIF when you can, JPG when you need max compatibility. Graphics with transparency: PNG or WebP. Screenshots with text: PNG or lossless WebP. Use the format guide on this page and the dedicated pair pages for each direction.
